Auto Transmission Parts

When you think about how sophisticated or complex a car is, you will be amazed. But even so, have you ever wondered how does it function? Driving a car is very simple and there is little knowledge required for that, but have you ever shown interest when it comes to understanding how the whole ensemble works together for you? Have you ever become interested in how a big pile of raw materials can provide what you use every day as something indispensable? If you want to learn something new, read on.

Any car is very easy to read on the outside. There is a shell that is meant to protect you from bad weather and strong winds that will come up when you drive fast. Glasses on every side are meant to provide all the necessary visibility of everything around you and your car. Four wheels are meant to help your vehicle move from one place to another a lot faster. But what about what happens underneath that shell? What makes the wheels turn and catch the speed we all yearn for?

One of the most important parts of your car is the transmission. Also known as the gearbox, this mechanism provides torque and speed conversions to another device by using gear ratios. In order to get an idea about what the transmission does for a car and to put it as plainly as one can, this is the mechanism that transmits the power output developed by the internal combustion engine, which is the heart of your car, to the wheels, in order to generate motion.

What does a transmission do? The engine usually functions at a very high number of rotations per minute (rpm), three or four thousand, climbing up to nine or ten thousand. If the wheels were turning so fast, then we could say that our cars use four propellers to move around instead of wheels. In order to make the entire process as pleasant as we all know it, the auto transmission parts slow down the engine’s rpm so the wheels will have just the right amount of momentum to move.

The connection between the engine and the transmission is usually through the crankshaft. This makes the transmission generate a significant output, which in turn is redirected through a driveshaft to one or more differentials. These are the auto transmission parts that determine the wheels to turn and thus the whole car to move. The latter parts may also have the function of reducing the gears, but their main purpose is to spin the wheels of your vehicle.

Transmission parts or ensembles are not only used on cars. They are available on any machines that need the rpm of one device to be adapted when interacting with another. If you want a common example, it would be on bicycles. You use your feet to rotate a center wheel that generates motion for the back wheel of the ensemble. If the center wheel is wider than the back wheel your strokes are harder, but they generate much more speed. But if the center wheel is smaller, then you are just out enjoying the breeze pedaling and relaxing at the same time.

Repairing your transmission is not a very easy task. You need to be a very skilled mechanic in order to break down your car into small pieces, repair the broken components, put the auto transmission parts back together and still have your car function properly. You should leave this to professionals if you want to enjoy your car for many years to come.
