BEVs: the future of automobile industry
As you know, fashion is cyclic and so are the trends of automobile industry. Auto future hinges on electric cars and the advancement of technology will soon make eco-friendly vehicles mainstream. In a recent engineering conference, Ford Executive, Bill Ford, an ardent advocate for the environment and a new carmakers` culture stated that new technologies will make possible for electric cars to be more appealing to mainstream consumers, reminding that the existence of such vehicles is not in fact a new thing. It`s true that at the beginning of automobile industry all cars were electric (they`ve been around for more than a century) but they`ve never really had a mass-market appeal.
Electric cars are alternative automobiles using electric motors and controllers for propulsion, in place of other propulsion methods, such as the Internal Combustion Engine, with a significant potential in reducing city pollution and with zero tail pipe emissions. Specialized forums estimate that the use of electric cars would result in 30% reduction of the carbon dioxide emissions for the United States, 40% in the United Kingdom, 19% in China and only 1% in Germany.
Currently, there are actually two types of electric cars: BEVs (Battery Electric Vehicles) and hybrid electric cars. The name Electric car is used mostly for pure battery electric vehicles but the hybrid electric car has become the most common form of electric vehicle. Hybrid cars combine an internal combustion engine powertrain with supplementary electric motors to run the car at mostly low speeds and use regenerative braking techniques to improve its efficiency.
While most Battery Electric Vehicles are in a concept stage, most major car manufacturers sell hybrid cars with some extremely notable models. In 2009, the world`s most popular battery electric car was REVAi, also known as G-WIz, manufactured in Bagalore, India and currently available in 24 countries around the world. These kinds of vehicles often provide good acceleration and have acceptable top speeds but the poor energy capacity of batteries compared to that of fossil fuels demonstrate that electric cars have a relatively poor range between charges and recharging might actually take a while. For the moment , Battery Electric Vehicles seem more appropriate for everyday use than for long journeys. Still, they remain very practical and inexpensive to charge overnight.
Manufacturers estimate that the number of private cars in use will increase exponentially over the coming years and they express their duty to encourage the production and the use of clean and energy efficient cars as the vehicles of the future. For the consumers, differences between gasoline-powered vehicles and electric ones are not easy noticeable because in most cases, electric cars are created by converting a standard ones but for a driver of an electric vehicle the only clue about the type of car running would be that it is nearly silent. Inspite of the nedeed improvements, do not forget that electric cars mean changing the future, considerable fuel-economy and affordable fuel-economy for millions of customers and most of all, a new direction in increasing the awareness about our environment.
