If you could think of one word to describe a GPS, what would it be? If I say “Ferrari”, it might not be the right word, and people are bound to say I’m a little bit crazy. I admit one of my dreams is to own a car like this but if you want to buy me a GPS I advise you to chose something else. Not because I don’t like it but because it won’t fit on my car.

The Ferrari Traffic Assist Pro is nice looking (like almost all Ferrari’s products), it has a 4.3″ touchscreen, map data for Europe and United States, Bluetooth handsfree set, telephone and address book, lane info assistant etc.

Now go and buy the adequate car for this gadget! More details here, via.

Price: $535

Some time ago GPS devices were for one thing only: helping drivers find their way. But lately manufacturers have started adding new features, such as support for disabled people.

The KW-GM4306TG from Kinwei Technologies could be labeled as a GPS unit with support for bored people. The innovation? 8-bit games. It’s not like a PSP, but it can still keep someone entertained during rush hour or on long trips (one of the passengers in the latter case, of course).

The GPS comes with a 4.3-inch TFT LCD touch screen with a resolutions of 480 x 272 pixels and a controller for the games. If you have a rear view camera you’ll be happy to know that the KW-GM4306TG has an AV-in port it can be plugged in.

Other features:

Navigation software: ARMV4I compilation, software stored in SD card

Built-in Bluetooth module and antenna

Hands free communication and shows incoming phone numbers

Memory slot: SD card and MMC card

Built-in 3.7V Li-ion battery

Supports multiple languages

GPS devices are useful in many ways, but they have a downside: they’re expensive. And if all you want is a solution to a simple problem, there’s no need to spend a lot.

The Bushnell BackTrack is probably the most basic GPS available. You push a button and it remembers the position to guide you back. If you’re one of those people who can never remember where they parked their car and regularly end up searching the whole parking lot, you might consider one. Or, then again, maybe not, since (while it’s still cheaper than full-fledged GPS devices) it’s $73.95.

However, since it’s not limited to one use, it could be worth the money: use it to find your way at festivals, while traveling or camping and while <s>getting lost in the woods</s> hiking.

Maybe you know of Garmin’s range of GPS devices for motorcycles. But if you’re a Harley owner, we have more good news: you now have a GPS especially for you.

The Road Tech zūmo comes with all the features of the previous versions and adds several goodies for Harley bikers. Beside finding hotels, restaurant and gas stations, users will be able to use the included directory of Harley-Davidson dealerships and also download routes created with the ride planner at Harley-Davidson.com.

Since it’s a product for motorcycles, it’s got a glove-friendly design and it’s waterproof. It comes with a custom mount that’s tailored to fit the rough riding and features a theft prevention system that disables the zūmo until the user types in a specific 4-digit PIN or takes the unit to a predetermined secure location.

Buell motorcycle owners will soon be able to buy special Road Tech zūmos, with the same features and functions.

The UK already had it, and now the United States does too: DS-400GB, now renamed to SmartMirror, a rearview mirror with integrated GPS navigation.

The SmartMirror lets you replace your old rearview mirror instead of finding a new spot for a separate GPS unit, which means it will be easier to watch your route and the cars behind you at the same time.

It has a 64 MB internal memory plus a 2 GB SD card for storing maps and pictures, and is built on Windows CE .NET 4.2. It also features an integrates speaker and several built-in Bluetooth functions, such as Bluetooth hands-free phone, incoming caller ID display on screen and manual/auto call answering. The software it used is Navigon Mobile Navigator 6.5 and, if you add the FreshMaps accesory, you get up to 12 map updates.

It’s quite pricey at $799, and will be available August 1st.

Throw away your old GPS now. You won’t need it ever again because the ultimate GPS is here: the Knight Rider GPS by Mio. Yes, KITT in a box!

For those how forgot (or, God forbid, didn’t see the original series), the Knight Industries Two Thousand was a young David Hasselhoff’s partner in solving crime – basically, a talking supercomputer on wheels. The Mio version comes with several of the well-known characteristics of KITT: the design resembles that of the car, the dual LED visual amplitude indicator readouts mimic KITT’s LED anamorphic equalizer and, of course, the voice… Yes, KITT will be telling you exactly how to get to the bar or your friend’s house.

So keep your wallets ready in expectation of a price announcement. You know you want this.

If you thought you had seen all that GPS devices had to offer, think again. This cuddly thing is not some kid’s toy: it’s the prototype of a talking car navigation system from iXs Research Corporation.

The teddy bear doesn’t have a screen, but it uses its arms to point the way, while also giving voice instructions. It even comes with an alcohol detector in its neck, so if you’ve been drinking you might get a warning from a talking toy, and it includes a sensor to detect reckless driving – if you speed or slam the breaks too fast you will get told off. It can also be useful for those more interested in tourism: when you stoke his head, he gives you info about nearby landmarks.

If you got excited, sorry, there’s no way to buy it yet. It will only (probably) be available next year.
