Monitoring device allows good drivers to get insurance discountsIf you're a careful driver, you might be able to lower your insurance fees - so says auto insurer Progressive Corp.

The company offers drivers the possibility of installing a monitoring device that tells Progressive what time people drive, how many miles they've driven, how fast they accelerate and how often they hit the brakes.

According to the results, drivers can save money - but also spend more. The discount for signing up is 10%, but at policy renewal, depending on the driving habits, customers can get discounts of up to 60%. The downside? If you're a bad driver, you can pay up to 9% more.

This program was launched in June in Alabama, then spread to Minnesota, Oregon and Michigan, and will be made available in New Jersey in August, with more states scheduled for the future.
